THE BIGGEST JUVENILES IN LIVERPOOL

SHAKEDOWN

  KEEPING THE DEAD ALIVE

VIOLA LEE BLUES

Bees are disappearing, fast. The population of honey bees in the UK and in the rest of the world has dropped by around 70 per cent in the last 35 years and it seems that no one knows why our honey bees are dying out so rapidly.

Why does it matter that our bees are dying out I hear you ask, honey bees just make honey right? Not so, a third of all food production in the UK and worldwide relies on bees for pollination. This means that without honey bees for pollination, many of our basic foodstuffs would not survive and the future of humankind would be precarious to say the least. Pretty scary stuff isn't it?

Saturday 19th march the pilgrim LIVERPOOL HOSTS A DAY OF EVENTS TO RAISE PEOPLES AWARENESS  OF THIS PROBLEM.

Once again the monthly shakedown street knees up at the pilgrim promises to be one of the highlights in the liverpool gig calendar. this comes after a staggering performance at a secret gig in anfield where the lads minus the organ played for over two hours to a packed out venue. this time at the pilgrim there is no support and is the first there since GUITARIST mick grant finally decided to LEAVE the band FOR THE FORTH AND FINAL TIME just a week after the last gig. shame but the lads AS ALWAYS will keep on trucking.

This morning I went to the record fair in Lark lane....Midway through i stepped outside to see a guy gingerly approaching...from his clothes i deduced that he was a member of the rocking and rolling fraternity.....we got chatting and he mentioned he had a recording studio in norris green.....intrigued i quizzed him some more and the subject of the Pilgrim "Bees" gig came up.....he announced that his band had been muscled off the bill by a group of dudes who preceded to play a Grateful Dead  tune that he knew would last 20 mins called On The Rim Of A Volcano....he bemoaned the lack of organisation and the self indulgent nature of the gang of dudes....i decided to let him talk himself into a siding, then i fessed up that i was the bass player of the gang of heavyweights..... STANDS BACK IN AMAZEMENT !!!!!..."Oh sorry man..." he exclaimed...."Quite alright boss" was my reply.....he then produced a marijuana "reefer" and offered me some..."No tis alright ace...I er...dont anymore".....we chatted somemore, and i invited him to the gig on the 9th july, with the promise that we would extend Volcano [Viola Lee Blues] to 30 mins just for him..he then got off not bothering with the fair....his name..... Paul Reynolds, guitar player with A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS.....funny old world ain’t it

As a postscript to this encounter i was chatting to the guy on the door, who asked me was that the bloke out of AFOS...yeah man i said..."Didn’t he wear those big white glasses?"...true man

"i thought it was"  I think I scared him off by him finding out I was the bass player with the self indulgent bastards “Shakedown Street !" I also invited the guy on the door to the gig.....
